Our lives as leaders should reflect our ultimate mission, vision, and residence. As believers in Christ, our ultimate residence is in Heaven. In light of this, consider our ultimate vision and mission. Do they include doing all we can with what we have in the time given to help others join us there? Our lifestyles, how we live, lead, and make decisions in our business should reflect and align with this belief. As God’s business stewards, are we spending the time and resources God has given us investing in the things that are going to move on to heaven. We are on the clock, let us invest in what matters!
The Ultimate ROI
Consider that a Return on Investment (ROI) is relative to the economy you are measuring against. The souls of men and women can be impacted and provide us the ultimate ROI in heavens economy. We usually consider an ROI in light of ourselves. In the heavenly equation, the ROI is for those we impact, and the Lord. As the Apostle Peter reminds us in 2 Peter 3: 10-13, everything else will in the end be left behind and destroyed. As marketplace leaders, Holy and Set apart, to what degree are we keeping Heaven in mind as part of our perspective in business. We have all likely experienced in some way, “Out of sight, out of mind”. Keeping visions of heaven in our line of sight can be part of our life focus.
I would like us to think about the ultimate reason we do anything, either in business or personally. How often do we ponder this awesome truth of heaven and keep it fresh in our minds? As those who have accepted and are following Christ as our Lord and Savior, we likely believe that based on God’s Word, we will spend our eternity in Heaven. Likewise, only treasures we store up in heaven will last for eternity. Nothing else will transcend this life on earth.
Monday Morning
In what ways are you developing what is likely one of your largest investments, your people? As a leadership assessment, consider what you are investing time and money towards in your business. How are you allocating resources and what impacts does it have on the lives of your employees, vendors and customers? In what ways does your culture and budget reflect an investment in people? Do people feel cared for, invested in, and respected? Is there an expectation of other leaders within your team or company that they are also making those around them successful? There are more comfortable paths than dealing with people. However, the joy of seeing those around us in our businesses grow, develop and be impacted towards eternity is where the true joy will come.
When we take time and use resources to invest in our people, this reflects the heart of God. In doing so, in some ways we are pointing them ultimately towards heaven. This is where the unexplainable peace will be as the waters start to rise. A peace that can only come from walking close to Him as His Steward in business. By accepting this calling and trusting in Him daily as our business plays out, we are given the opportunity to speak of the hope that is within us. (1 Peter 3:15)
