Ordained & Stretched

Consider our amazing role as God’s stewards in the marketplace.

Have you considered that your role as a leader was not an accident? I believe an important perspective is to clearly see and firmly believe that God has put you in a leadership position.   He has commissioned you, set you apart as His steward to lead others in the marketplace towards achieving His purposes.  You were placed, ordained with vision and values inspired by God.

A great example of God’s hand in placing us is with Queen Esther in Esther 4:14.  God placed Esther in a position to influence the King for such a time as this.  Not for her own purposes but for a much bigger vision.   Likewise, we have been placed in our business roles by God, to influence many for Christ, for such a time as this.

Setting Us Apart

As with Queen Esther, carrying out God’s purposes will usually stretch us out of our comfort zone.  With this in mind, we need His Strength, equipping and power. We will need to remember that as His stewards in the marketplace, we can be confident in this calling. We should not be intimidated nor fearful as He promises to never leave us nor forsake us.  (Josh 1:9)

Stretching Us

Doing Gods work in the marketplace will stretch us. Given this, we need to stay plugged into Him.  We can do this by clinging to His word every day. Likewise, surrounding ourselves with other like-minded people.  These actions help us maintain this required power source to accomplish God’s plan. Otherwise, we will likely be only be marginal in our efforts.

We may feel unqualified at times. He has already equipped us to accomplish His plan. It is not random, nor impossible, although at times it may seem so.

Be Confident

Be confident in this calling, that as His leaders, we are Holy and set part to accomplish great things for God.  This will come with some fear and anxiety at times.  Even King David felt this, as expressed in his Psalm 27.  Let the Truth of Gods Word and His Goodness that awaits you in this calling move you to act and confidently lead your organization.

Godly Leaders Trust and Obey, Daily

As leaders, we will experience uncertainties and likely some anxious moments. These ups and downs can go along with business cycles, world and economic events.  In these times, stay focused on following God and pursuing first His kingdom. This aligns us with His purposes and honors Him as stewards. When we do, He promises to provide for what we need.  (Matthew 6: 8-11)   As business owners and leaders, this will require faith. In return, it will lead us to a deeper Trust in God, and will result in obeying Him daily.  These biblical principles are illustrated in the Christmas story of Jesus birth as captured in Matthew 1: 18-25.

A Leader’s View of Money- Eternal Economics Indicator

When you think about your business, it likely revolves around and is driven by one central component:  Money.  Ultimately this is what the world we live in measures as success.  Money is what people work for, returns your business investment, what your vendors seek, and what your customers use to access your goods and services.  There is no way around this, nor should we over-spiritualize it.  However, what you are driving towards and continually reflecting on will determine your eternal impact.  What you are making your life and business ultimately about, and what you are doing with this money may be the most important factor.  This is what I will call the Eternal Economics Indicator.

A Leaders Power Position

As leaders, we are in positions of power, with access to power.  This aligns and puts us in the best possible position for success, and more importantly, significance.  In the bible, we read stories pictorializing how Jesus and other leaders viewed power, as one of influencing towards eternity through prayer and acts of humility.  While Jesus was on this earth, He influenced many for eternity.  His example of seeking the Father in Heaven for Himself and others gives us as leaders a roadmap to follow.
